Neudorf sits on Highway 22 in the Rural Municipality of McLeod No. 185, east of Lemberg and Abernethy and west of Killaly. The community was already established before the Canadian Pacific Railway came through.
When the railway arrived, Neudorf was designated a divisional point, and that brought a boom in population. The community incorporated as a village on April 25, 1905.
Neudorf has produced some well-known names. Among them are Henry Taube, who won the Nobel Prize in Chemistry; Doreen Kimura, a Simon Fraser University professor and Kistler Prize winner; and Percy Saltzman, the first English-speaking weatherman in Canada. NHL hockey players Ed Litzenberger, Brian Propp and Jarret Stoll also come from the village, as does Dick Assman, who became known for an appearance on the Late Show with David Letterman.
